Dr Sim Hom Tam - Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Dr Sim Hom Tam is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. He was born in Baucau, East Timor and migrated to Australian as a teenager. He graduated from the University of New South Wales and completed his specialist training in Sydney and London. He set up his private practice in Canberra in 2005.
Private patients can choose to deliver at both Calvary Private Hospital, Bruce and Calvary John James Hospital, Deakin. Antenatal clinics are held at Bruce including midwifery consultations with each visit. Dr Tam has special interest in minimally invasive surgery, high risk obstetrics and infertility.
Dr Tam consults on a wide range of women's health issues, including prolapse, contraception, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibriods, menopause management and menstrual abnormalities and more. Early 2015 he joined ISIS Fertility and now also consults patients for IVF and infertility issues.
Dr Tam sees both private and public patients in his rooms. He has admitting rights and operates at Calvary Private, The Barton Private Hospital, Calvary John James and National Capital Private Hospitals for private patients. Dr Tam also has admitting rights and operates at Calvary Public and Queanbeyan District Hospitals for public patients.
Dr Tam delivers his private obstetrics patients at both Calvary Private Hospital in Bruce and Calvary John James Hospital in Deakin.
Dr Tam has special interest in minimally invasive surgery, high risk obstetrics and infertility.
Emergency and short notice appointments are available on direct request by GP.
Dr Tam speaks English, Mandarin and Hakka.

Dr Sim Hom Tam has a caring and knowledgeable approach to gynaecology, providing diagnosis, treatment and care for women with a wide range of gynaecological conditions.
Many gynaecological conditions can be embarrassing and restrictive to your lifestyles. Menstrual irregularities, hormonal imbalances, prolapse and urinary incontinence are just some of the common condition which Dr Tam manages. Not all these conditions need surgeries. Dr Tam usually prefers utilising the more conservative management options first.
Dr Tam also manages and treat pap smear abnormalities, colposcopy, family planning and contraceptive advices such as the combine pills, progesterone only pills, implants and intrauterine devices. He also provides fertility and infertility advices and investigations.
Dr Tam has a special interest in minimally invasive surgeries and would opt for keyhole surgeries whenever possible. He utilises the laparoscopic method for management of conditions such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids and hysterectomy (when vaginal method is not possible).
