The Mental Health Foundation (ACT) is a leading service provider and information resource for mental health in the Australian Capital Territory. We are a professional not-for-profit, community based member organisation. We deliver innovative programs, that are designed to positively enrich and to improve the lives of people living with a mental illness, including their family, friends and colleagues, who often take on a caring role - sometimes without realising it.
We assist people living with all mental illnesses, for example: depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders. We are also often able to assist people who have not been diagnosed with a mental illness, or have the wrong diagnoses. - ACCESS Information and Referral
The Information and Referral Program of the Mental Health Foundation endeavours to provide timely, accurate and appropriate information, advice, referrals, source materials and limited support on mental health and related issues to the community in the ACT. We provide an information phone line that can be accessed by consumers, carers, service providers and other professionals, researchers, students and any member of the public. We also provide specialised information packages for consumers and carers around particular conditions, as well as a library of source materials relevant to mental health issues, their treatment and common professional and self-help therapies. - The Rainbow
Psychosocial rehabilitation in a club model.
A place for all mental health consumers to go and meet new people, learn new skills (computer, internet, art and craft, gardening and writing) or simply relax in a safe, friendly and respectful environment. There's a pool table as well as board games, table tennis, relaxation classes, regular excursions and trips, cooking etc. It's free and very popular, well serviced by buses (Numbers 36 and 39 from Civic Interchange and Number 48 from Belconnen Interchange). - The Respite Program
The Respite Program provides short term support to those living with mental illness. The program operates from Warren I'Anson House and provides respite accommodation with structured activities for up to three adults with a mental illness. The house is modern and located in a quiet leafy street close to shops and transport. The program aims to maximise meaningful social experiences and minimise social isolation and disadvantage in order to obtain a more rewarding lifestyle. All elements of the program are focused on improving daily living and social development skills. To be admitted to the program a person needs to meet the admission, referral and assessment guidelines which are set out in the website link provided.
