Mental Health Justice Health Alcohol and Drug Service - Organisational Development
The Organisational Development Unit supports training and development for Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug Services staff and the various community sector partners excluding Psychiatric Registrar training requirements.
The Organisational Development Unit aims to support both Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug Services staff and more broadly the mental health and alcohol & drug sector including formal linkages with relevant areas of ACT Health and other government departments.
This unit also includes service wide clinical and non clinical support comprising the Consumer Consultants and Carer Consultant whose key role is to influence the culture of staff regarding consumer and carer participation and to strengthen staff understanding of the principals of recovery and collaboration.
In addition the Consumer Consultants and Carer Consultants have a role in systems advocacy and this is best achieved through formal organisational development activities and dialogue at the team level, committee attendance and quality improvement projects.
Our Transcultural Mental Health Liaison Worker also supports the development of a culturally sensitive work force in collaboration with Organisational Development as well as developing and strengthening linkages with key stakeholder groups and personnel.
The Coordinator of Children of Parents with a Mental Illness Health Promotion Initiative (COPMI) promotes the needs of both children and parents within mental health services and across the sector.

The Mental Health ACT Children of Parents with a Mental Illness (COPMI) Health Promotion Initiative promotes better mental health outcomes for COPMI families in the ACT community. - Consumer Consultants

Mental Health employs three Mental Health Consumer Consultants. The key role of the Consumer Consultants is to influence the culture of staff regarding consumer empowerment and to strengthen staff understanding of the principals of recovery and collaboration. This is best achieved through formal organisational development activities and dialogue at the team level, committee attendance and quality projects. - Quality Improvement Consumer Consultant and Organisational Development

The key role of the Quality Improvement Consumer Consultant is to assist in the development of a quality framework to support consumer driven services in conjunction with the Quality Improvement Officer and the Mental Health Organisational Development Unit. In addition, a key role will be to assist in the monitoring and support of the revised National Standards for Mental Health Services and their alignment with ACHS accreditation processes. This will be achieved through formal organisational development activities, quality improvement projects and involvement in all levels of MHACT service planning and delivery.Contact:

- Consumer and Carer Participation Coordinator

The role of the coordinator is to drive the Mental Health commitment to implementing the national agenda of increasing and improving consumer and carer participation across all levels of the organisation. Mental Health (MH) recognises the benefits of collaboration for improving the safety and quality of services and increasing consumer and carer satisfaction with services. Consistent with research around participation, MH aims to provide a range of strategies for participation. This approach recognises the differing preferences people have for participation.Contact:

- Transcultural Mental Health Community Development and Liaison
This service is not a public service. Service is provided for internal staff only.
The Transcultural Mental Health Community Development and Liaison Officer is working with multicultural communities to help consumers from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds access the appropriate mental health services. This role is also responsible for increasing cultural awareness within the Mental Health teams via training and education.
